Representing Indonesia at the COMEUP Global Startup Festival 2022 in South Korea

After becoming Ecothon 2022 Champion in the Indonesia Series in mid-2022, BANANA & Partners represented by Muhamad Rifqi Al-Ghifari and Karina Kristanti had the opportunity to attend the COMEUP (컴업) COMEUP Global Startup Festival 2022 in South Korea on 8–12 November 2022 at Dongdaemun History and Culture Park.

COMEUP (컴업) is a global startup festival that was born in 2019. Since its launch, COMEUP attracted +130,000 participants including +2,700 investors and +280 speakers. More than 270 promising startups pitched on the stage, having succeeded in after-event funding of +242M USD in total.

COMEUP aims to be the world’s most startup-led festival. All programs and events are fully led by startup founders and communities. It builds a global network of startup communities from around the world, helping their startup ecosystems grow and scale up, introducing promising early-stage startups with never-seen-before innovations.

BANANA & Partners was directly invited by ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC),ASEIC was established in 2011 to promote cooperation of green growth in Europe and Asia, with a particular emphasis on enhancing eco-innovation of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) ) in both regions. Agreeing on the importance of SMEs as main engines of innovation and growth, Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) member countries joined together to establish ASEIC as an international platform for spreading eco-innovation principles and practices among SMEs and assisting them in harnessing the new business opportunities that arise out of such principles and practices.

On November 10, 2022, BANANA & Partners had the opportunity to pitch Investor Relations (IR) in front of three Korean stakeholders namely Brian Kim (CEO of Kim Venturous), Yoonmin Cho (Partners of Sopoong Ventures), and Alex Min (CEO of RE- Harvest). This time the pitching was brought by Karina Kristanti as the co-founder and Business Development of BANANA & Partners.

Apart from pitching, there are exhibitions and conferences filled with various Korean startups that have been funded from pre-series A to series C. Digital Grounds and FGD for Greening The Startup Ecosystem (20th — 21st October 2022)

20th October 2022, BANANA & Partners attended the Digital Grounds: Towards A Green Digital Economy event organized by Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH GIZ Indonesia, ASEAN & Timor-Leste. The DTC & Make-IT Project is implemented together with the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Republic of Indonesia at Westin Jakarta. This event aims to support digital transformation in Indonesia through strengthening activities, including using digital technology and digital enablers.

The purpose of digital grounds activities is to share essential knowledge and facilitate the exchange of information between actors and stakeholders existing players in the ecosystem about the current status and strategies that support digitizing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs/UMKM) and developing green technology in Indonesia. In addition, this activity provides insights and journeys from UMKM, green technology startups, and the entity’s public organizations (civil society organizations/academics) to support UMKM in accelerating digital technology adoption.

Indonesia and Germany discussed strategies for accelerating digital transformation for UMKM and startups, particularly related to technological innovation for a green economy. The design will support preparing the Long-Term Development Plan 2025–2045 and the National Medium-Term Development Plan 2025–2029, particularly National Priority 5, Infrastructure to Support the Economy and Basic Services.

This event was attended by practitioners in UMKM and the Green Economy ecosystem consisting of public and private entities, among others: Government, Academics, Associations, Business Sector, business support organizations, technology pioneers (digital stay-up), and UMKM with interest in using technology digital for business, as well as aspiring entrepreneurs who are interested in developing green technology.

21st October 2022, BANANA & Partners attended the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) event at CoHive 101 Mega Kuningan Jakarta. This event also invited other institutions from Government, Associations, and stakeholders, including Private Sector. In this event, we discussed Greening the Startup Ecosystem in Indonesia.

This FGD activity intends to formulate and map current conditions, such as challenges and lessons learned, to become inputs for appropriate support strategies and effective. This activity was carried out using a focus group discussion method so that participants and practitioners could exchange knowledge and collaboratively make strategic plans to improve and support Indonesia’s green technology start-up ecosystem.

BANANA & Partners, together with PANDORA, will continue to consider environmental aspects in driving economic growth to realize the principle of sustainability as one of the main goals.

BANANA & Partners become Innovation Ambassadors for Balikpapan City at MUSRENBANG CSR 2022

The Government of Balikpapan (Pemkot Balikpapan) held a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Development Planning Consultation/ Musyawarah Perencanaan Pembangunan (Musrenbang) at Grand Tjatra Hotel, Balikpapan, Monday 10 October 2022.

The series of events includes communication forum Tanggung Jawab Sosial Lingkungan Perusahaan (TJSLP), Festival Inovasi, Launching Rumah Inovasiku, and Balikpapan City Research and Development Dissemination in 2022.

The purpose of holding this event is to synergize Balikpapan Government’s priority development program with the Company’s CSR program which will strengthen collaboration for sustainable development, mutual benefit for the company, and benefit the people of Balikpapan. In addition, this event is also a strengthening of cooperation and dissemination of information and learning for companies in the implementation and development of CSR programs.

In the Innovation Festival series in this events, BANANA & Partners participated in the KRENOVA (Kreativitas dan Inovasi Masyarakat) Competition and set up a booth to introduce the company profile, PANDORA, innovation, and products. At the event, BANANA & Partners became The 1st Winner of KRENOVA Balikpapan City 2022 for the Community Category.

This winning is the first step for BANANA & Partners to continue to develop innovations for the community, especially in waste management. It is hoped that in the future, BANANA & Partners together with PANDORA Balikpapan can take care of the environment and are fully committed to collaborating together to realize the sustainable development of the City of Balikpapan.BANANA & Partners will also become Innovation Ambassadors for the City of Balikpapan who will be the representatives and also the face of the city’s innovation campaigns to the government, young people, to environmental activists or other innovators.

BANANA & Partners at The 80th-Anniversary of Bakrie Group

“Generasi Bangun Negeri”, an initiative program by the Bakrie Group to empower outstanding Indonesian youth. One of the programs is I-Start (Innovation Pitch Tech Startup) Competition which was held to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Bakrie Group.

Through this program, Bakrie Group provides facilities for the Indonesian younger generation to be able to contribute to answering the needs and solutions of the community in various sectors. I-Start invites startup businesses to pitch their ideas from various sectors through technology-based innovations and breakthroughs.

BANANA & Partners and 18 other semi-finalists did the first pitch which was to describe their startup. BANANA & Partners brings PANDORA, Pusat Industri Daur Oelang Rumahan which process waste into energy. The first pitch is done in an electric bus produced by VKTR Indonesia, which is one of the startups belonging to Bakrie Group. BANANA & Partners made it into the top 10 and move on to the next stage.

Through this competition, there are so many unique and brilliant ideas emerged from young people which then can help to answer the community’s needs and solutions. We are also given the opportunity to build networking, discuss for businesses, and exchange ideas and experiences with Bakrie Group and other finalists

BANANA & Partners Win Shell Livewire Energy Solution 2022

Event Handled by PT Shell Indonesia

After almost 10 months from starting the registration of Shell Livewire Energy Solution 2022, BANANA & Partners was crowned the first winner beating almost 100 energy solution startups in Indonesia. BANANA & Partners, chaired by Muhamad Rifqi Al-Ghifari, brings solutions to the waste problem in Indonesia into an energy source that has an impact on reducing carbon emissions and local economic growth.

BANANA & Partners sees the competition held by PT Shell Indonesia and Global as a big competition that will change the perspective of the startups who participate. “Shell Livewire Energy Solution is an event that young startup founders have been waiting for, especially in the energy sector because it is packaged in a marathon where those who can consistently grow, give 100% in this event, are the ones who will win.” Said Rifqi.

The competition presented competent performers from Shell Indonesia, Clean Power Indonesia, Angel Investor, MDI Ventures, ITB, Kementerian Energi Dan Sumber Daya Mineral, and Shell Livewire alumni in previous years. In the top 10 stage, BANANA & Partners got a lot of input on how to pitch properly before a jury consisting of investors, regulators, practitioners, and also academics.

With the belief that waste-to-energy will have a social, economic, and environmental impact, BANANA & Partners wants to continue to contribute, accelerate, and also continue to grow into a business-sustainable startup.

On 7–9 September 2022, Karina participated in an activity from 중소벤처기업진흥공단(Korea SMEs Startups Agency), Ministry of SMEs and Startup South Korea, KEMENKOPUKM, ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC)Shinhan Future’s Lab IndonesiaBank Shinhan IndonesiaGreen Business Center and Hanns Seidel Foundation, with the theme Korea-ASEAN Business Model Competition for SDGs at the Ayana Midplza Hotel, Jakarta. BANANA & Partners as the 1st winner of Ecothon Indonesia get a pass ticket to join the top 30 and qualify for the top 10 in this event.

Empowering and Revitalizing 9 Waste Banks in Balikpapan

BANANA & Partners and Pertamina Patra Niaga Kalimantan region (CSR DPPU Sepinggan) tried to widen the sustainability ecosystem by creating an event called Be Better Challenge. This event aims to capture waste banks in Balikpapan and open access to collaboration and innovation in the long term.

“We hope that the Waste Bank, with the presence of Pertamina through the Pertamina Better program together with BANANA & Partners can strengthen the circular economy from upstream to downstream,” said Nindy, CSR Pertamina DPPU Sepinggan.

The Pertamina team with BANANA & Partners and the Environment Agency visited 9 Waste Banks in Balikpapan City in person to meet with administrators and community leaders and see the innovations firsthand.

One of the newest Waste Banks visited was Wonorejo Prona 3, where the head of this waste bank is Mr Thomas Sukino, who has been involved in the community to develop eco enzymes for 35 years. Mr Thomas is passionate about making Ecoenzym with the concept of house-to-house (Plasma) and planting Aloe Vera, which later the aloe vera product can be commercialized through a waste bank. The Waste Bank specifically collects recycled waste that is only 3.5 months old and is currently ready to collaborate with the Pertamina Better program and BANANA & Partners.

There are so many problems that can be solved through the Waste Bank, especially the community’s habit of sorting, managing, and reducing waste, but it will be difficult if there is no consistent support and regeneration for the future. The presence of Pertamina Patra Niaga Kalimantan Region (CSR DPPU Sepinggan) and BANANA & Partners, together to create a sustainable Waste Bank for the NUSANTARA.

BANANA & Partners Win Indonesia Energy Innovation Challenge 2022

An energy transition in Indonesia is urgently needed and is still being developed. And Indonesia has many potentials. The next generation of business leaders and talent is just around the bend and is prepared to make a difference by making ground-breaking contributions to the energy transition. Every year, all parties involved in or interested in the energy transition in Indonesia come together for the Indonesian Energy Innovation Challenge 2022. In addition to creating new connections and enabling the beginning of new collaborations, the event gives students and entrepreneurs a platform to discuss their concepts and solutions.

In 2022, the Energy Innovation Challenge is organized by Energy Investment Management, Initiate, Enlit Asia, SBM ITB, SRE UB, and APLSI (Association of Indonesian Private Electricity Producers). BANANA & Partners along with seven other energy startups were selected as finalists in this event. June 30, 2022, attended by judges Leo Pulles (Senior Investment Advisor of Energy Investment Management BV), Kamia Handayani (VP Climate Change and Safeguard PLN), Adrianto Darmoyo (VP of Renewables at Medco Power Indonesia), and Irvan Farastha (CEO Powerbrain ), BANANA & Partners pitched and asked questions with the judges.

Represented by Rifqi Al-Ghifari (CBO), Karina Kristanti (BD), Herry Wijaya (CEO), and Wildan Elsha (CTO), BANANA & Partners conveyed PANDORA’s innovation which is a waste-to-energy and waste-to-material facility that aims for sustainable prosperity. Other startups that were present in the final round were Exit, Sangkara, eco wave power, weav air, lectro energy semesta, Kincir island, and Beli Jelantah.

At the end of the event, the announcement of the winners, BANANA & Partners succeeded in taking first place or as the Champion in the Indonesia Energy Innovation Challenge 2022. As a result, BANANA & Partners will receive mentoring from expert coaches and are entitled to participate in the SOUTH EAST ASIAN ENERGY INNOVATION CHALLENGE 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand September 21, 2022.

PANDORA Cisauk is ready to run in August 2022

“This recycling center will open up new job opportunities for the Cisauk community, reduce waste, and also innovation that will continue to grow in the future, I really support it,” said the Head of Sub-district Cisauk (Kepala Kecamatan).

On Monday, June 28, 2022, together with the Head of Kelurahan Suradita, Cisauk Residents, and also the Chief Business Officer from BANANA & Partners (Rifqi Al-Ghifari) visited the Cisauk sub-district office to meet Mr. M. Yusuf fachroji (Head of Sub-district/Kepala Kecamatan). The agenda for this meeting is to take care of licensing, technical discussions, and regional regulations in the sub-district (Kecamatan).

This is an innovation that is highly appreciated as a starting point for building a waste management ecosystem and renewable energy in Cisauk, Tangerang Regency. This will push people in Cisauk to solve economic, social, and environmental problems on their own and in new ways.

“All activities involve indigenous Cisauk residents such as youth, leaders, housewives, and the general public, so that the circular economy concept is properly implemented in the PANDORA system, which will run in August 2022,” said Rifqi Al-Ghifari.

The waste-to-material and waste-to-energy capacity in PANDORA will be at least five tons per day with the waste sources around Tangerang district. In PANDORA Cisauk, there will be results in the form of chopped and pressed plastic, biocharcoal, maggot, and biodiesel. Zero Waste to Landfill.
